This year’s theme of the International Self-Compassion Day (July 19), hosted by the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, is Standing Strong, Staying Kind, Finding Joy in Uncertain Times. When so much of what we see in the world is the opposite of what we teach in our self-compassion courses, this theme feels not only right, but essential.
To mark the occasion, our founder and certified MSC teacher, trainer, and mentor Mila de Koning will be leading a special session titled ‘Finding Resilience Through Self-Compassion’ on July 26 as part of the Free Mid-Year Self-Compassion Mini-Retreat. Mila has experience teaching self-compassion courses in Ukraine and other conflict-affected areas. Through this work, she has seen how mindfulness and self-compassion can offer support during times of uncertainty and chaos.
Why self-compassion in uncertain times?
Do you feel sometimes overwhelmed by everything that is happening in the world right now? Or in your own life or inner circle? In times of uncertainty, self-compassion can be an anchor for strength, resilience, and hope.
And yes, when the world feels like the exact opposite of what we teach, practicing kindness can be incredibly challenging. So how do you remain strong enough to keep your heart open and courageous enough to stand up for yourself and what you believe in?
We believe self-compassion is essential for navigating life’s challenges and finding moments of ease even in the most difficult circumstances, that is why we created the workshop ‘Self-Compassion in an Unstable World’.
This session invites you to explore self-compassion as a source of empowerment, connection, and hope. It’s for anyone seeking ways to stay grounded, act with kindness, and turn compassion into meaningful action.
What to expect?
During this short workshop on July 26, Mila de Koning will guide you through practical and reflective exercises designed to build resilience through self-compassion, even when life and everything around you feels unstable.
You’ll explore what it means to stay afloat when life feels like it’s about to overflow, and learn simple, supportive practices to carry with you into daily life.
